Tim Count

Tim Count is the Musical Director of the Australian Rock Symphony, touring Australia in January 2010.

Based in Perth, Western Australia, Tim is one of Australia's most accomplished musicians, with a diverse background that covers everything from live rock, to orchestral work, to music for film, TV and radio. As such he is the perfect musical director for the highly ambitious and exciting Australian Rock Symphony, which will see Tim assemble and direct a 30 piece symphony orchestra and a full rock band to back iconic Australian artists Chrissy Amphlett (Divinyls), Diesel, and Baby Animals.

Tim studied classical piano from the age of 9 and performed in professional bands throughout his teens and twenties touring Australia and releasing two top 20 singles. Through his career he has backed such artists as Deborah Conway, Marc Hunter, Angry Anderson, Doc Nesson, Swanee, Mark Callaghan (Gangagang) and Mark Gable (Choir Boys) and supported such artists as Sting, Shirley Bassey and Julio Iglesias.

He graduated in Jazz Piano, Composition and Arranging at WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) – 1992, lectured in Music Technology at WAAPA for 5 years, and is a Member of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, British Design & Art Directors and Western Australian Sound Professionals. Tim is also Director, Composer and Producer of Perth studio/production house, Music Design Systems (MDS) founded in 1997. MDS is a company that creates music for a wide range of various productions, including feature film and short film scores, documentaries and television series soundtracks for clients including the ABC, BBC, Discovery channel and National Geographic etc, right through to music for TV commercials both national and international.

Tim has numerous industry awards to his credit that include:
  • WA Music Industry Association (WAMI) - Best Keyboard Player - 1984
  • WA Music Industry Association (WAMI) - Best Keyboard Player - 1989
  • Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) – Best Song - 1992
  • APRA Australian Screen Awards – Finalist – Music in Film 2005
  • Perth Advertising and Design Awards (PADCs) – Music and advertising
